As a self-confessed non-creative kind of couple, Bride Adri and Groom Harrison kept their Adelaide Hills wedding super relaxed and casual.

Having got to know each other through work way back in 2009, the newlyweds gave their relationship a shot once Harrison made a decision to cancel his plans to move back to the UK. He also proved that it’s never too early in the day to pop the question! ‘We were leaving Australia to go and visit Harrison’s family in the UK for 5 weeks and little did I know that Harrison had asked my dad for permission to marry me. He proposed to me in the kitchen at my parent’s house at 4:30 am before we headed to the airport. It was very low key and casual;  just like us. After we came back from our holiday we fell pregnant with our daughter Arabella, which paused our wedding plans for a little while’.
Having never been the kind of girl who’s planned her wedding since she was little, Adri didn’t have any sort of specific themes in mind at all so they just ended up keeping things simple and relaxed and for them, this was perfect. Instead, they let their venue do all the talking and focused on having a great time with friends and family. ‘For us, our wedding day was simply having all our friends and family together in one place.  We had many family members travelling to SA from South Africa and England and so grateful for them making such an effort. I also managed to keep Harrison’s aunt and uncle attending the wedding from England a secret from him and his parents. So that was a huge surprise for them all on the day!’ said Adri.
Although there was one member of the bridal party who didn’t quite feel the wedding day vibes….. ‘Our daughter who was a few months off of turning two at the time did not want to have anything to do with photos on the day! All we could do was laugh about it because anyone who has a toddler knows that’s once they’ve made up their mind about something there is nothing you can do about it! We did still end up with some great pictures of her though.’
As they look back on a day which was a true reflection of their relaxed and go-with-the-flow vision, Adri does have some great advice to share. ‘My biggest tip for planning a wedding is that there are no rules! I was involved in a couple of wedding planning Facebook pages and I just felt that so many people got so caught up in this culture of weddings where everyone is doing the same sort of things. A lot of them were heartbroken over imaginary rules that really meant they weren’t having the wedding the way they wanted it. If you truly want to enjoy your wedding day it needs to be exactly what you want it to be and not how everyone else is doing theirs.’
