Think heavenly flowers, a ten piece brass jazz band, a bit of Dutch heritage and you’ve got the wonderful Adelaide Hills wedding of Salome and Liam.

Having met way back in 2005 and following their 2013 engagement in Cambodia, the newlywed couple set about creating a very thoughtful wedding day at Salome’s parent’s property that included as many of their friends and family as possible. ‘We were fortunate to have family from overseas and local family involved in preparing for our wedding day. We included our family in preparing for the day as much as possible. This included going on a wine tour to source wine for our ceremony, cleaning the brass and copper vases, sewing bunting and cushions and making posies of flowers for around the home.’

They also included a little Dutch culture into their day thanks to a fortunate find at an op shop. ‘A Dutch tradition is for the groom to leave clog at the bride’s home on the wedding eve. If the parents take the clog inside they accept him as their future son in law. My husband found a small clog at a local op shop and placed it at my parent’s door the night before the wedding. They brought the clog inside and were delighted at the gesture.’

Whilst organising their wedding at home was quite an involved task, Salome is grateful for the suite of spreadsheets she created to help become a super organised bride. ‘I had a budget spreadsheet, a guest list spreadsheet, an on the day spreadsheet/run sheet and a contacts/provider spreadsheet. It meant on the day we could send them to our providers and a few key people. We could let go and enjoy the day knowing it would all fall into place and if not someone else would sort it as they knew what we had planned.’
