Deep in the heart of the Burbrook forest at Kuitpo is ‘that’ tree and the magical place where Suzie and Desley pledged their love for each other.

We make absolutely no apology what so ever for this being such a long blog post because quite simply, photographer Kate Pardey gave us so many amazing images to use and as you’ll see the styling that Suzie and Desley created is off the charts amazing!

After searching high and low for an outdoor setting that was quirky and different, they found the perfect place to create their woodland themed wedding at Kuitpo. Thanks to Suzie’s creative streak and with the help of friends and family (which included painstakingly painting 100’s of pinecones, sourcing heaps of fresh moss, toadstools and birdcages!) it all came together amazingly. Our absolute favourite detail is the embroidery on Suzie’s dress.  So darn cute!  Closely followed by them getting cosy in The Speakeasy Hotel with a cocktail or two.

Following their most heartwarming, love-filled ceremony was an outdoor reception that carried on with their woodland theme complete with long tables and plenty of warm lighting. They also ensured that food played a big part of the event with an abundance of share platters and a menu custom designed by caterers Cargo Catering (including a nod to their favourite chef Heston Blummenthal).

Being a same sex couple, the current marriage equality debate is obviously hugely important to them both and they have some special words to share.  ‘Although our marriage is not recognized as a legal union, we have still had our day where we were able to stand up in front of our family and friends and share with them the love and commitment we have made to one another. Knowing I have made a commitment to someone that I love and respect, someone I am proud of and truly blessed to have as my partner. Being able to have that one special day that we put so much of our time and effort into, and receiving so many compliments and feedback from family and friends of it being the best wedding people had ever been to. Realizing that everyone there was just happy for us, there was no judgment or feeling like our relationship was not considered real or equal. It restored my faith in people when sometimes the world can be an ugly place where people can hate you for who you choose to love.’ Suzie told us.

Desley has her own words to add too. ‘Our wedding day is a day I will remember for the rest of my life. It is the day that I was able to stand up in front of all my nearest and dearest family and friends, with no judgement or negativity present, and commit myself to the woman that I will spend the rest of my life with. The happiness and excitement I felt that day will never be matched. Every day I feel lucky that we found each other, and grateful that I have someone who loves me for me.’

Love definitely WINS!

It truly was a fantastic occasion. It took a LOT of planning and resourcing by Suzie and Desley. Much happiness to them always.
