It’s so great to see more and more dogs being included in their owner’s wedding days.

Ensuring your fur babies are looked after means that you can totally relax knowing that they are in safe hands before and after your ceremony and reception.  I Do Paws was created to do exactly that. Find out more about this vendor who has a passion for animals both big and small.

Tell us more about you

My name is Emily and I’m a 27 year old qualified veterinary nurse from Adelaide. I have a few passions in my life and they all revolve around my biggest passion, which is animals. After graduating from my studies in 2009, I began my career as a Vet Nurse.

In my spare time, I play AFL for the Woodville West Torrens SANFL women’s team. My other great passion in life is snow skiing. I love to travel, looking for the best ski field, so far Ellmau in Austria is winning.

At home, I am the mother to two beautiful cats and one amazing Australian Shepherd and wife to my incredible husband.

Why did you set up ‘I do paws’?

When I got married in 2016, we had our puppy Ace as the dog of honour. This type of service didn’t exist so it was a logistical nightmare trying to organise who would bring him to the venue, who would keep him calm, who would pick up his deposits and who would leave the reception early to drop him back home and feed him dinner?!

I thought I would offer this service to friends and family because as a vet nurse the service went hand in hand. Within a month, the word got out and my inbox was filling up with requests. I decided to take the leap and open up the business to the public in July 2017. Since opening just over 1 year ago, I have helped over 45 couples include their fur babies at their wedding.

What do you love most about weddings?

I love everything about weddings. I get teary without doubt at every wedding I work. I love seeing the joy in the guest’s eyes when they see the couples pooch. They always comment how great it is to have them involved. When the couple sees their beloved fur baby, happy and excited to see them, their face lights up. You can see the love they share and they are instantly at ease. But nothing beats the pup’s reaction to seeing their parents. The whole body wag, the tongue out, the eyes light up, that’s why I love weddings and that’s why I love what I do!

If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

In the past, I have been described as a duck. Under the water, I’m paddling like crazy, but on top, I’m calm and won’t stop quacking! Behind the scenes I’m crazy busy with my business, working full time and playing semi-professional football. But I would never let my busy schedule get in the way of a play date with my animals, a date night with my husband, or a social event with my friends. I surround myself with the greatest flock of ducks to help me out.
